The Unicorn is one of Skipton's oldest hotels The above advertisement was taken from an original newspaper clipping advertising the Unicorn Hotel taken around 1890 showing the original grand façade. Built by BYB, Bentley Yorkshire Brewery, the stone carved letters can still be seen under the decorative arched windows on the side of the building. Older Skipton locals remember the unicorn and drank in the pub beneath, now turned into shops. The entrance is now located under the windows at the side of the building an unfortunate side effect of the 1970's. This BYB building was a grand replacement for the original Unicorn hotel located on the opposite side of Keighley road slightly further down, it was moved due to the widening of the arterial entrance route into Skipton
